If there were an election for the greatest SDB ambassador, André Polfliet would certainly be one of the candidates. He not only purchases display cases for ‘his’ Historical Collection of Ground-Based Air Defence in Vredepeel, but also for all the other collections of the Royal Netherlands Army. “I’ve been a regular at SDB for years,” says André.

The Historical Collection of Ground-Based Air Defence (HCGLVD) focuses on the stories of air defence: from guns to missiles. The museum in the Lieutenant-General Best Barracks was established in 2008 following the merger of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Museum (in Ede) and the heritage room of the Guided Weapons Groups at De Peel Air Base. Like the 22 other collections of the Army, it has grown into an official collection. André plays a unifying role in this. “Together with a financial officer, I ensure that we have the same look and feel everywhere,” he explains.

Calm and professionalism

Not a mishmash, but uniformity with identical mannequins and display cabinets. That has been the aim since 2012. “For years, SDB has been exactly what we’re looking for: a wholesaler that manufactures its own products,” says André. “Large or small, freestanding or wall-mounted: all display cabinets have the same sleek, neat style. That conveys calm and professionalism. What’s more, it makes our collections instantly recognisable, whether you’re in Vredepeel or at another barracks.”

“At SDB, they combine craftsmanship with flexibility”

Also custom-made

Step by step, all display cases across the collections are being renewed. While consistency is important, certain locations require bespoke solutions.André explains: “At the Medical Collection in Hilversum, the display cases had to fit precisely into existing alcoves. SDB came on site to take measurements, provided sound advice and delivered high-quality results. They combine craftsmanship with flexibility, which gives us the confidence that everything will always work out perfectly.”

‘It truly feels like a collaboration’

With around fifty display cases now in Vredepeel and additional units in stock for other collections, HCGLVD and SDB have built a strong partnership.

“For us, there is no other supplier,” André says firmly. “I enjoy visiting Rosmalen, and in return all SDB colleagues have visited us at least once for a tour. Our relationship goes far beyond business it truly feels like a collaboration.”
