"Satisfied customers make my day"
At SDB Vitrinebouw, craftsmanship is key. After all, it’s the details—both visible and invisible—that make all the difference. And that's exactly what our team ensures. One of them is all-round technician Raymond Neufeglise. The 48-year-old from 's-Hertogenbosch has been with us for almost five years now.
Tell us, Raymond, what do you do as an all-round technician?
"I'm mostly found in the workshop. There, I build our products, working with wood, glass, and metal. Sometimes I also go on-site to assemble custom display cases. So, I can be deployed anywhere."
Are you a technical jack-of-all-trades then?
"I have a background in metalwork and transportation and spent many years installing shutters. That definitely helped when I started here. But I learned the real tricks of the trade from my colleagues. And besides, I'm never done learning. Recently, I spent some time in the sawmill, which gave me a better understanding of what's involved in preparing the profiles. I can also now mill aluminum myself."
What qualities are indispensable in your profession?
"Above all, precision, so that display cases are delivered neatly. And technical insight: to solve problems and to make display cases just a bit better. For example, by using a different profile, a back wall made of another material, or different lighting. Such adjustments are always made in consultation with the work preparation and sales departments. Of course, you need to ensure you have solid technical reasoning."
"A display case should look like something I'd want to have at home"
So, you don't just follow a blueprint blindly?
"Definitely not. I enjoy thinking along, and that's appreciated too. Ultimately, it’s all about the result: a display case should look like something I'd want to have at home. When I know it’s done right and that customers are satisfied, that makes my day."
Are there any unique display cases or projects on your wishlist to create?
"Absolutely. I'd love to work on the really special cases that involve a lot of electrical work. Though I still need to learn quite a bit from our head technician for that. The location can also make a display case special. I once went to Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes, England. Places like that, you never forget. Projects at unique locations: I'd definitely like to do more of those!"
